Tell me if this sounds familiar: Your website works, but something about it just isn’t doing it for you lately.
It’s fine. But you know it could be better.
You think maybe a new design is the answer. But as a website designer, I’m here to tell you that your website doesn’t always need a full redesign to feel better or work harder for your business.
Here are some thoughtful, strategic updates you can make to your website today to bring it back into alignment with where your business is right now.
Update Your Service Descriptions and Client Process
Chances are, something about your offers or the way you work with clients has changed since you initially wrote your website copy.
I recommend going through your service descriptions quarterly to make sure your project timelines, deliverables, and pricing are all accurate for any prospects browsing your website. This way, you’ll know that anyone who inquires has up-to-date information, making it easier to start off your client relationship on a positive foot.
Add New Services Pages
If you’ve had the same website for a while, your business may have undergone major changes since its last update.
Prioritize adding new offers you’ve created to your existing services page or creating new sales pages when it makes sense.
While Instagram links work in a pinch, a dedicated service page on your website will convert way better long-term. An outdated website that doesn’t reflect your actual offers will cost you way more in lost leads than it would take to update yourself or hire a designer to fix.

Swap Out Stock Images
From one business owner to another, I totally understand the convenience of stock photos. They can instantly make your site feel more polished even if you’ve not yet invested in brand photography.
But ideally, you should eventually replace any stock images throughout your site with images of your own. It doesn’t have to be all of them at once – you can just do one image at a time.
Behind-the-scenes shots, photos of your workspace, and headshots instantly make your site seem more lived-in and human. You’ll come off as more trustworthy to prospects when you’re willing to show something real!
Update the Backend for Platform Changes
This is by far the least sexy thing on this list, but it’s SO important. If your website platform has upgraded or added new features, check the backend of your website to make sure everything is still working smoothly.
As a website designer, I know firsthand how frustrating making sure your website is compatible for new tech updates can be. Which is one of many reasons why I created my Website Support Day service! If you need help with the backend of your website, you can find all the details here.
Check Your Opt-Ins and Welcome Sequence
When was the last time you tested the opt-ins on your site and made sure they worked properly? If you’re like most of us, the answer is probably way too long ago.
Make sure your opt-in forms are still relevant and the copy is true to your current brand voice. Then input your information to check that they still work and new subscribers are being added to the right list segments.
BONUS: Update your welcome email or sequence that someone gets when they sign up for your list or lead magnet. Does it still sound like you? Does it reflect your brand and your offers today? This is one of those “out of sight, out of mind” things that’s easy to forget, so folding it into a website refresh is a great way to make sure it stays relevant.
Add New Client Testimonials
If you’ve had recent wins, time to add them to your website and let them shine! For business owners who have a lot of testimonials, I recommend swapping in one or two that best reflect your current work, pricing, or audience.
Social proof should evolve as your business evolves, so don’t be afraid to only keep the best ones. You might also sprinkle different types of testimonials throughout multiple pages of your website.

Update Your About Page
Your About page is one of, if not THE, first page someone will click to after they first land on your website.
People are more likely to buy from people they like, trust, and relate to. Your About page is your chance to show off your personality in an authentic way. So make sure it grabs visitors visually, and the information on it is up to date and true to you. What do you do? What kind of clients do you serve? What makes you special in your industry?
And don’t be afraid to throw in some fun elements, like the pop quiz on my About page!
Refresh Your FAQ Section
Your FAQ section isn’t a set-it-and-forget-it type of thing. It should reflect the questions leads and clients actually have, designed in a way that’s helpful to someone thinking about working with you.
Skim through your existing FAQs and remove anything that’s redundant or irrelevant. For example, questions like “What are your rates?” that are answered on other pages of your website can be deleted.
Then add three new questions that customers are asking right now. Write them how people actually speak. Think, “How do I…” instead of stiff, corporate phrasing. This builds trust and removes friction before someone ever reaches out.
Refreshing Your Website Doesn’t Have to Be Stressful
These are some simple changes you can make so your website feels more aligned, intentional, and supportive of the season you’re in.
